The activity process to prevent fall in the Korean elderly

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to discover the activity process to prevent fall in the Korean elderly.

Methods: Five participants were recruited by theoretical sampling method. The Subjects of this study were the older adult women over than 65-years-of-age and living in S city, Korea. The data were retrieved through in depth interview. Collected data were analyzed through grounded theory approach of Strauss and Corbin(1998).

Results: From the open coding process of this study, 147 concepts, 41 subcategories, and 14 categories were deduced. Through this study, the activity process to prevent fall in the Korean elderly was showed a process of ¡®acting within awareness¡¯ as core category. And its chronological process was including four phases, which are phases of ¡®perceiving¡¯, ¡®acting¡¯, and ¡®achieving.¡¯ The subjects were classified as three types, such as ¡®passive performance¡¯, ¡®active performance¡¯, and ¡®neglect.¡¯

Conclusion: The results provided basic information for nursing intervention strategies depending on ¡®acting within awareness¡¯ process by each phase and different types in the activity process to prevent fall in the Korean elderly.
